The yard has been abuzz with activity from all of our feathered and furry friends. Our resident mommy bunny has been staying in the same vicinity in the front yard for the past several days where she is nesting again. It’s quite precious to see her laying there in the shade just taking it easy throughout the day. It’s very dry here as we aren’t receiving any rain, so we have put out a nice sized dish with water for our ground dwelling friends to enjoy. During an afternoon break this past week, we were treated to quite a show of getting to watch our resident black snake, named Vicious, hunt for Skink lizards. One of our squirrels wasn’t as excited to share the yard with him. After several close calls, Vicious gave up and decided to continue the hunt elsewhere, but I so enjoyed watching him while he was in the open garden area. I’m continuing to enjoy holding the Hummingbird feeder while they drink from it. They are really enjoying all of the available natural nectar sources that are blooming in the yard right now, and continue to fight for them even though there is plenty to go around. We’re also enjoying all of our resident baby Gold Finches that are calling constantly to weary parents, wanting to be fed.
We’ve been spending most of our time painting our miniatures. The weather in spite of being extremely dry, has been beautiful here the past week. We have really enjoyed the fall-like feeling in the air during our walks and bike rides. It’s been cool enough a few of the days during our lunches on the screened porch to cause me to wear a flannel shirt, which is quite unusual for August. We also enjoyed a wonderful cookout at one of our dear neighbor’s homes Saturday evening with about 18 of the neighbors. These are always fun as there are so many yummy different things to eat and try. While we were all just relaxing and talking, one of the neighborhood raccoons came to see what was going on and entertained for a bit.
I’ve posted photos of two of our newest miniature paintings. The painting, “Nesting at La Jolla” was painted from a photo taken during our recent visit to southern CA. I was totally captivated by all of the flowers blooming everywhere. I especially loved the lavender flowers that even bloomed beside the interstates. This area was absolutely full of several species of birds including the Seagulls that were nesting all over. This is such a beautiful area and we so enjoyed just watching the birds coming and going. Wes’s painting, “Warm and Fuzzy”, was painted from a photo taken during a visit to a zoo. He took the photo while I was petting and brushing this precious one. Wes ends up having to take most of the photos in the petting zoo areas, as I’m too busy making sure all the critters get their share of attention.
I’ve also placed links to some friends blogs that I enjoy visiting for you to enjoy.
Until next time ~ Rachelle 🙂
