More painting and music

While we’ve been spending most of our time recently painting, we enjoyed a fun evening Saturday. We had a nice supper at Subway with friends. Then the six of us headed to a local dulcimer shop called Wood & Strings. This is where I purchased my hammered dulcimer that I enjoy playing. They have music every Saturday evening throughout the summer on their property adjacent to the river. It’s a lovely spot with a small porch that provides the stage for the many talented musicians that play there. It always proves as a bit of a challenge for those entertaining as the Cicadas love to chime in with their part, and can be quite loud. If you’ve never heard Cicadas sing before, you’ve really missed it as they’re quite interesting and loud. I’ve posted a photo of one of our favorite local groups, “The Sisters of the Silver Sage”. They sing with beautiful harmony,  the old western and cowboy type songs.

We’ve still been enjoying our daily bike rides or walks while taking a break from painting. The flowers still are doing well despite the major drought we continue to suffer from here in Tennessee. The butterflies and Hummingbirds continue to enjoy them all. I took a photo of the newest addition to my butterfly and bee garden in the front yard. They obviously love it as there’s hardly an available spot for another to land and join in the feast. I also took several close up shots that will most certainly become a miniature painting. We have to spend time watering quite often. The beans in the garden have come to an end, but produced very well. We still have beans in the fridge and put up in the freezer.

I’ve posted two of our new miniature paintings. The first is Wes’s, and is done from a photo taken of a stream on a beautiful trail not very far from where we live. It is a gorgeous spot and quite a peaceful walk. My painting of the three boats was done from a photo taken in Tarpon Springs on one of our visits to Florida . Although it was quite time consuming it was very fun to do.
