More Miniature Paintings and Heading to Colorado

"Learning From The Masters" by Rachelle, measures 2 3/4 X 3 3/4 inches.

My newest miniature painting “Learning From the Masters” was done from a photo taken during our visit to Washington, DC last December. We were enjoying one of the many incredible art museums there, when we happened to walk into to a room and see this gentleman painting. What a great way to learn the colors and values that the old masters used so wonderfully. I absolutely loved this painting done by Ruebens of Daniel in the lion’s den. That has always been one of my favorite Bible stories as well, so as you can well imagine I just had to paint the entire scene in miniature and had a ball doing so! These are the smallest lions and man that I have painted to date.

"Pale Reflections in Pink" by Wes, measures 4 1/2 X 2 1/2 inches.

'The Pollinators" by Wes, measures 4 1/2 X 2 1/2 inches.

Wes’ miniature titled “The Pollinators” was rendered from a photo taken while visiting our friend, Don Weiser , this past month in Brevard, North Carolina. This Thistle was growing in the front yard and was constantly being visited by bees and an occasional butterfly. We had just arrived at his house when we saw this beautiful flower being backlit by the sun, so Wes got a few really nice photos of it and came home and painted it.

The past couple of days have been spent getting packed and everything ready for our trip tomorrow morning to Colorado where we’ll stay with our dear artist friends, Diane and Bob Mason, at their beautiful home in Berthoud, Colorado for a couple of days. Karryl will be joining us in most of the adventures too. Then well all head to Salina, Kansas for the opening weekend festivities of the 49th Annual Art and the Animal Exhibition of the Society of Animal Artists. While there we’ll enjoy a trip to the zoo with several other artist friends and a few other fun activities. I should have a lot of great stuff to share with you on my next post!

Until next time ~ Rachelle

  1. Wow, sounds like a fun time. Rachelle, this is a really nice piece, so well done. I love the repetition of the man painting, the man in the painting and the man in the bigger painting! Great job on Wes’s two works too. My favorite is the “The Pollinators”. Really great lighting on this one! So delicate looking.

    Have a great trip!

    1. Hi Carol,
I’m so glad that you like our new pieces! I had a lot of fun painting my piece, although it was a bit challenging at times. Yes, we had a wonderful trip and now it’s time to get back to painting.
      Rachelle 🙂

  2. What beautiful works of art! I saw your site listed as one of Carol Andres’ favorites, and I’m so glad I clicked over to here. Your pieces are amazing. I’ve JUST started entering some of the miniature art shows. I still have a lot to learn, and it’s so much fun seeing the diversity in your subjects and techniques.
