A week of art exhibitions it has been! We returned home this afternoon from the opening for our “Exquisite Miniatures II” exhibition, which officially opened last evening at the beautiful Yadkin Cultural Arts Center in Yadkinville, NC. It was a wonderful reception, which started off while visiting with collector friends we hadn’t seen in a year or more, and meeting new people attending the opening. We all enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres, as we chatted and the attendees enjoyed viewing our fifty-five miniature paintings on display. Wes then gave a very insightful lecture, which touched on the history of miniature paintings, and gave a bit of entertaining history about our career in art throughout the years. There were many laughs in the audience during the talk, and questions about our miniatures were answered during a galley walk afterwards. Not only was it a delightful evening of visiting, but a successful start to the time our miniatures paintings will be exhibited there. This is the second time that our “Exquisite Miniatures” exhibition has been to the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center, since the first time around was such a success, and so well received by the attending public, that they wanted it to return and be on exhibit longer. Exquisite Miniatures II will be exhibited in this lovely arts center through December 22, 2012. So if you’re in the nearby area, make sure you plan time to enjoy visiting this wonderful venue and view our miniature paintings on display there. They also have a wonderful “in house” cafe and the beautiful new Willingham Theater will open in December after several years of planning, hard work, and much anticipation!
Before the past two exciting days, we had arrived home from Easton, MD, where we exhibited our miniature paintings during the 2012 Waterfowl Festival. It was a great weekend with what seemed like record attendance on Saturday, thanks to the gorgeous weather, which the festival was blessed with this year! We enjoyed seeing many of our collector friends there and visiting with fellow artists. As always the artists’ dinner party on Saturday evening was a delightful event, as was a small gathering of artists at local festival worker’s beautiful home the night before. We were also very delighted to be able to enjoy staying once again at our dear collector friend, Sharon’s, beautiful home on the way back to Townsend. It was a real treat to enjoy her delicious homemade crab cakes and ice cream sundae bar for dinner while also enjoying great conversation and much laughter with her and another couple of friends. Having met her precious and sweet Miniature Pinscher Samson during the visit before, while photographing him for a portrait miniature commission, it was great to see and spend time with him again as well! I think he enjoyed Wes and my company too!
Fresh off the easel: No paintings has been done this past week, with our travels to and from the two shows and to top it off our computer died while we were in Easton! That resulted in a trip into Knoxville to take “Mini-Mac” to the “Apple Dr.” Thankfully, after a couple of hours and the moving back and forth of files, then the erasing and rebooting of the computer, it finally responded. That was the good news . . . the bad news was that poor Wes has spent the last several days, and is still spending time trying to get the computer back to “normal”. Thankfully, he had all our important files backed-up! We truly hope that was a once in a lifetime ordeal!
