Wes and I just returned home last night from a delightful weekend in picturesque Thomasville, GA, where we attended the 24th Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival. It’s always such a treat for me to return to the land where Spanish Moss graces the limbs of outstretched Live Oaks. Since I grew up in Florida, Spanish Moss-filled trees are truly one of my absolute favorite sights!
We arrived at the Thomasville Cultural Center on Thursday in time to set up part of our display of miniature paintings. Afterward, we headed to our dear friend and most gracious host, Mary’s house where we would be staying during our visit. We were thrilled to meet her precious little dog Sunshine for the first time, who came into Mary’s life this past year! After getting our miniatures hung and arranged the next morning, Mary joined us for a fun afternoon spent touring the grand Pebble Hill Plantation located a short distance south of Thomasville. As always we greatly enjoyed our visit and the abundant laughter with our most entertaining and informative tour guide!
That evening we attended the gala opening of the show, where the Cultural Center was filled to capacity with excited patrons, many decked out in the finest formal southern attire. The next afternoon I received a real treat, when my family who I haven’t seen in many years, walked in and surprised me! We so enjoyed spending a short time together while catching up, and I was delighted to meet my cousin’s adorable little boy Kaine and get to spend a wee bit of time playing with him! As we’ve always done, we did more laughing than anything, which was most enjoyable for all of us!
Being a big fan of critters and reptiles, and especially turtles, Kaine thoroughly enjoyed the Wildlife Encounter program that afternoon and was delighted to get to pet a Gopher Tortoise!
That evening Wes and I attended the Bird Dog Bash which takes place at the beautiful Sugar Hill Barn located at the Pebble Hill Plantation. It’s always great fun serving up delicious food and lots of wonderful conversation and laughter with artist and patron friends!
Before we knew it the show had come to an end and it was time to pack our remaining miniatures. That evening our taste buds were treated to a delicious dinner at Mary’s and afterward we all, including Sunshine, enjoyed watching a funny movie. Wes and I both so enjoyed playing catch and wrestling with Sunshine during our stay with Mary and I’m pretty sure Sunshine loved it too! The next morning it was time to say our goodbyes to Mary and Sunshine and head back home.
Wes and I want to extend a BIG heartfelt Thank You to our collectors who added our miniatures to their collections and for giving them wonderful homes, as well as to the most friendly PWAF staff for a delightful weekend in Thomasville!
